Robotic Co-Op Chaos: A Review of Biped

Recently, I got the chance to play a newer indie game called Biped made by NExT Studios. It’s a cute co-op game where you play as a little robot who’s tasked with reactivating beacons around the planet. Throughout the game, you solve little puzzles, help people with their broken down boats, and explore new environments. Happily enough, I got to play this game with my older sister, RydeHappi5258, on our Twitch channels. Overall, I really loved playing Biped, but let’s get into the review!

Gameplay and Music

Biped’s controls are simple, though they took me some getting used to. You control your lil robot with the left and right joysticks. It took some practice to get the coordination right, though I did end up defaulting to just rollerskating around. You can achieve that by holding both sticks in the same direction. This was the quickest and easiest way for me to make my way around the world.

The levels all have a new addition to the puzzles in the game. Players experience anything from blocks that change color so that only one person can take a step at a time to having to tow an NPC down the river. My sister and I lost those NPCs a couple times, although it did feel like they were trying to sabotage our efforts. The mechanics definitely make you communicate and cooperate with your partner. This was something that I wasn’t always the greatest at. Early on, I found out that if you spin your robot around you can effectively kick things in the environment, including your partner. This led to more than one occasion where I “accidentally” kicked my sister off of the color bridge we were trying to cross. Truth be told, I’m sure at least a couple of those instances were accidental, but it was also fun creating some minor chaos during the game.

My sister and I commented on the music fairly often throughout our experience. We both really enjoyed how it kept us upbeat and energized even when we were amusingly annoyed with the in game characters. Thomas Parisch did a great job composing a soundtrack to fit the playful nature of this game. The sounds match the environment and each area of the game does feel different, which was a nice addition to the overall mood of the game.

Multiplayer Experience

This was one of the few games that my sister and I have been able to play together recently because it offers online co-op mulitplayer. We’ve missed being able to sit and play cooperative games together and this game definitely filled that need. We didn’t have any problems setting up a lobby and connecting with each other during the game. There wasn’t any noticeable lag during our game either, which was excellent.

If you, like my sister and me, miss being able to work though puzzles together. Or if you just miss the feeling of sitting together on the couch and messing with your friends while you play a game, I would definitely recommend it. Biped is charming, the environment is cute, and the music will keep you happy.

Overall Thoughts

I definitely recommend this game to people who enjoy co-op games they can play with their friends. The main story mode only took us about 3 hours to complete on stream. It looks like there are also some options that make the levels a bit more difficult, but my sister and I haven’t gotten to those yet. Follow me on social media to see what we think about those when we play them! The developer team that worked on Biped created a really fun and cute game to enjoy on your own or with friends, I would definitely say it’s worth picking up! It’s available on Steam, Switch, PS4, and Xbox.

As always, thanks for reading! Let me know if you give Biped a try! I’d love to know what y’all think about the game. You can find me at twitch.tv/pizza_yeti if you wanna see me play these games live and ask me questions about the writing you’ve seen from me!
